John Wayne as Ethan Edwards. "The Searchers" 1956
In this revered Western, Ethan Edwards (John Wayne) returns home to Texas after the Civil War. When members of his brother's family are killed or abducted by Comanches, he vows to track down his surviving relatives and bring them home. Eventually, Edwards gets word that his niece Debbie (Natalie Wood) is alive, and, along with her adopted brother, Martin Pawley (Jeffrey Hunter), he embarks on a dangerous mission to find her, journeying deep into Comanche territory.

You are so very talented at capturing the essence of the characters you draw, Andrew. The John Ford film, “The Searchers,” has a very interesting history as to how the film, based on the book, of which was based on a true story. Comanches were in Eastern Texas, and this movie was filmed in Monument Valley, using the Navajo people as actors. I read an interesting 2013 interview about this film, in “The Texas History Behind John Ford’s ‘The Searchers’ Texas Public Radio.” It was interesting reading. I probably saw this film at some point in my life, as my parents took me to many Westerns in the past. Congratulations for your Homepage Features. Well done!
